Summer newsletter - August 2023

Welcome to our summer newsletter. We already have many achievements to be proud of from the first half of 2023. We have helped to launch a trail of green technology in primary care, supported the development of a digital menopause support programme and celebrated a year of collective impact through the national Blood Pressure Optimisation programme.

If you would like to hear more about our impact, the recent publication of our 2022/23 impact review shares the story behind our work from over the last year. We are proud of the difference we have made, and my thanks go to our partners who make this work possible by striving to improve health and care in the Eastern region.

In July, we celebrated alongside the NHS as it marked 75 years of service. Since the establishment of the NHS, we have seen tremendous developments in healthcare, including many world firsts – the world’s first test-tube baby, the world’s first heart, lung and liver transplant, the world’s first laser surgery on babies in the womb and the world’s first COVID-19 vaccination programme.

With the recent announcement of the government and NHS England’s intention to relicense England’s 15 Academic Health Networks, we look forward to continuing to support the diverse healthcare requirements of the Eastern region while aligning to NHS priorities to meet the areas of greatest health need as we begin our next chapter under a new name.

As we couldn’t join Tendai at the service, we spoke to colleagues across Eastern AHSN to share what the NHS means to them.
