Winter Newsletter 2024

A message from our CEO

As ever, winter in the NHS has started in earnest. And, as most of you will be aware, the messaging from the government is that the NHS and its partners have to make some fundamental changes to the way in which care is delivered if we are to have any hope of exiting from the persistent issues that have faced the NHS in recent years. You will probably be aware of the three major “shifts” that the Secretary of State refers to, as follows:

  • hospital to community.
  • analogue to digital.
  • treatment to prevention.

At Health Innovation East we obviously believe that the solution to delivering these shifts lies in embracing and implementing innovation, and our team is here to support you in your contribution to this agenda.

Patients and communities expect that the innovations that make the greatest difference for our health are widely and consistently adopted. We are committed to making that happen. Our recent innovation showcase in Cambridge highlighted a series of products and solutions which all came about through the innovator being frustrated with how a particular aspect of care was being delivered. All the presentations were exciting and, if widely adopted, have the potential to bring beneficial and practical change to patients and NHS colleagues in our region and nationally. I encourage you to have a look at the report on the event: if you are excited by any of the innovations showcased, please get in touch with the team and we can make an introduction.

Thank you for all the work you do to support health and care in the East of England. We value our partnerships with you all and are grateful for all our contributions to our work this year.

Best wishes for the festive season, and I look forward to working with you in the New Year.

Piers Ricketts

Working with the NHS England, East of England Children and Young People (CYP) team, we were interested to understand how the specific needs of CYP have been considered in relation to digital technologies. Specifically, by increasingly adopting digital health care technologies, are we enabling CYP to better access to healthcare, or might we be widening an access gap?
